Hacker, Luella Volz
Luella Volz Hacker, 91, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown, with the Rev. David Rempfer and the Rev. Marvin Lorenz officiating. Interment will be at Marengo Cemetery in Marengo. Friends may register at the church from 2 p.m. until service time on Monday. Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established.
Luella was born Feb. 25, 1918, northeast of Marengo, to William H. and Ella (Dahnke) Volz. On March 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Hacker at Arshire, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Watkins and Marengo areas. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1993. Luella was a member of Grace Lutheran Church; a charter member of the Marengo Garden Club and a member of the Ladies Aid and the Fellowship Club. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, gardening, and was an avid card player and reader. Her nieces and nephews occupied a special place in her life.
She is survived by her cousin, David Ross of Cedar Rapids; her Hacker in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mabel Uthoff; her brother, Elmer Volz; and three nephews, Louis, William and Donnon Uthoff.
