Albert L. “Bob” French
Albert L. French, 83, formerly of Coggon, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Spokane Hospice House, Spokane, Wash., following an extended illness.
Albert Leroy was born June 7, 1930, in Kellerton, Iowa, to Leo and Dorothy (Treichler) French. He graduated from the Coggon High School, class of 1948, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1949. He attended Cornell College in 1949-1950 and transferred to the University of Iowa, Iowa City, graduating in 1954.
He spent much of his life in Colorado, where he loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, bow hunting and horseback riding. Al was a dreamer and had an entrepreneurial spirit; a mind full of ideas and energized by purpose.
Albert is survived by his former wife, Treva (Moore) Heiser; their three children, Victoria (Michael) Guesic of Brookfield, Conn., Doug French of Fort Myers, Fla., and Valorie (David) Hargett of Irvine, Calif.; a grandson, Gregory Guesic of Boston, Mass.; his sister, Bonnie J. (Bob) Hammer of Faribault, Minn.; cousins, Dick and Charlie Emig of Marion and Dan Emig of Ely; and his former wife and close friend, Barbara J. French.
He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts and uncles, Harold and Mardell Emig and Carl and Oma Mosley; and cousins, Jim Emig and Jack and Gene Mosley.
Interment will be in the Coggon Cemetery, with a graveside memorial service for family and friends at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, with Pastor Jen Filter officiating.
