Robert was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the son of Reginald and Helen O'Brien Beney. He lived a full and happy life. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and received his BBA in accounting from Dyke Business College. On May 28, 1955, he married Jeanette Novara in Niagara Falls.
Robert and his family moved to Iowa City in 1971. He was employed by Moore Business Forms for 30 years. He had a distinguished career which he began in Niagara Falls as an accountant in the position of clerk and worked his way up in the company throughout his career, with the last 16 years as plant controller at the Iowa City plant.
Robert was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce, the Mid-Eastern Counsel on Chemical Abuse and the Iowa City Genealogical Society. Before moving to Iowa City the family lived in Fremont, Ohio, where Robert was a member of The Exchange Club. His memberships also include the National Association of Accountants and Phi Theta Pi Fraternity, Delta Omega Chapter.
Robert was exceptionally devoted to his family, and his family was paramount in his life. He also enjoyed time spent in a wide variety of activities, including golfing, bowling, fishing, reading, gardening and listening to music. He enjoyed everything he did to the fullest. He loved golf and became very skillful at it, entering leagues and winning numerous trophies. While working at the national headquarters of Moore Business Forms in Park Ridge, Ill., he started the first golf league in the area that exists to this day. In fishing he perfected his own lures that he designed and made by hand, and using them caught fish of all kinds.
Robert was an exceptional husband, father, boss and friend to the entire community. He was kind and generous to everyone he met and he will be dearly missed.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jeanette; their five sons, David (Cindy) and Paul, both of Iowa City, Dennis (Amy) of Kalona, Thomas (Anne) of Florissant, Mo., and Christopher of Coralville; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brian and Megan; and his siblings, Charles (Karen) and Margaret Rougeux, both of Niagara Falls.
