One Park Place still progressing - Nearly two months after critical details about the project were expected, Cedar Rapids officials and a developer say they remain committed to a high-profile high rise selected in May 2016 to ascend from one of the last open city owned parcels downtown. Elected officials and city staff, as well as the developer, say One Park Place is progressing, but the $103 million, 28-story structure slated for First Street SE by the Paramount Theatre is just very large and extremely complicated. Read more about where the project stands here.
Adams All-American - The Hawkeyes' slugger was named the Big Ten's Player of the Year, but he wasn't named to the 17-player first-team of the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams. Adams was a second-team pick. Read more about whether Adams should have been a first-team selection here.
Petition for special election - The more than 12,800 signatures on Kula's petition call for an Aug. 1 special election on Linn County's representation plan — which dictates how voters elect members to the Linn County Board of Supervisors. Kula, of Coggon, and Lacey, of Center Point, have spent more than a year collecting signatures and finally handed in the petition Thursday, the final day to do so. Kula said his hope is that voters carefully consider which of the three available representation plans they want in Linn County. Read more about what each of the three available plans are.
Regents consider early retirement offer - In the face of state funding cuts, the Board of Regents Office is looking to offer its third early-retirement incentive to staffers in as many years after projecting savings from the previous two at $2.4 million. The nine-member volunteer board next week will consider approving the proposed 2017 early-retirement incentive program for its 19 office staffers — who provide administrative and professional support for the board, which governs Iowa's public universities. Read more about the potential savings and incentives here.
Quotable - 'Next year, someone else can paint the pool and see how much fun it is,' he said with a sly smile. Read about the Brucemore groundskeeper's retirement here.
