Otto J. Eichacker, 90, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial with military rites: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Otto was born July 12, 1926, in Homestead, Iowa, to Charles and Marie (Geiger) Eichacker. He graduated from Amana High School in 1943. Otto graduated in 1950 from the University of Iowa, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Alpha Phi Omega fraternities. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1948 and was part of the occupational forces in Germany after World War II. He married Mary Lisenbee in 1950. They later divorced.
Otto worked for FMC/Linkbelt Speeder for 33 years before retiring in 1983. He then worked for CEI Truck & Ag from 1984 to 1988 and for a short time at Quintrex Data Systems. Otto was a member of American Legion Post No. 727, Cedar Rapids. He was also a charter member of Cedar Hills Evangelical Free Church (Stone Bridge Church) for over 50 years. Otto played in the industrial baseball league on the "LBS" team.
Survivors include his children, John (Linda) Eichacker of Marion, Mary Green of Cedar Rapids, David (Jenifer) Eichacker of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Katharine Eichacker (Rod Upchurch) of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Charley Eichacker and Samantha Upchurch; one great-granddaughter, Ivy; and his brother George (Lois) Eichacker of Iowa City.
Otto was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie.
Memorial may be directed to Cedar Valley Humane Society in honor of "Sadie."
