Humphreys, Evelyn L. Wise

Evelyn L. Wise Humphreys, 85, of Northbrook Care Center, Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at the care center following a stroke. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her brothers, Manuel, Richard, Melvin Wise and their families; sisters-in-law, June, Liz and Julie Wise and Alice Broxey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; three sisters, Ruth Jean Wise, Phyllis Wennermark and Thelma Humphreys; and brothers, Leonard, Laurence and Leland Wise.

Evelyn was born Jan. 15, 1926, the daughter of John and Luella (Myers) Wise in Athol, S.D. She attended Roosevelt High School. On Sept. 19, 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage to Richard Humphreys in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed away on Feb. 24, 2004. Evelyn was a long time member of the First Christian Church where she had many good friends. She was an avid sports fan, bird watcher and loved dancing.
