Dostal Jr., Lumir E.
Lumir E. Dostal Jr., 76, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, by the Rev. Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 298 of Marion. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Sara; children, Doug (Becky) Dostal of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dawn (Matt McFadden) Thilmany of Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren, Emma Ruth, Madeline Grace, Samual Jacob, Lydia Renae and Elizabeth Anne; and sister, Darlene (Jim) Mollenhauer of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Allen; and daughter, Diana Lynn.
Lumir was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lumir Sr. and Libby (Kudrna) Dostal. He graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1954. Lumir attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1961. He married Sara Busse on June 23, 1962, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion; they celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.
Lumir was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired after 27 years as lieutenant colonel. He was a longtime farmer and community leader. Lumir was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion for over 50 years. He was on the Linn-Mar school board for many years and was an Iowa State alumni.
A memorial fund has been established in Lumir's memory.
