Karen I. (Gates) Sargeant, 76, of Rockville, Md., formerly of Atkins, died Friday, July 22, 2016, in Rockville. A small family service will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville, 100 Welsh Park Dr.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Sargeant; daughter, Kristi (John) Smith of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; daughter, Kathryn (Tom Chettleburgh) Sargeant of Ann Arbor, Mich.; brothers, H. William (Brenda) Gates of Belvidere, Ill.; grandsons, Christopher and Jeremy Smith and Steven and William Chettleburgh; niece, Jennifer (Jeff) Gates Armistead of Portland, Ore.; and two grandnephews, Clyde and Laszlo Armistead
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gladys Gates; and brother, John Gates
Karen was born July 8, 1940, in Vinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harold and Gladys Gates. She married Doug Sargeant on June 5, 1962 in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin.
