Smith, June Rose
June Rose Smith, 94, a resident of Hallmar at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Geneseo United Methodist Church, 3127 115th St., Buckingham, Iowa. Inurnment in the Geneseo Cemetery. The Rev. Christie John will officiate. Visitation from 12:30 p.m. to service time Thursday at the church.
Survivors include, great-niece, Sue (Larry) Kroemer of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews, Reece and Cal Lambert, Darlene Peters, Maria Bengston, Karen Langan and Judy Kieler; and other great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and sisters, and a niece, Eugena Sears.
June was born June 8, 1916, in Tama County, Iowa, to Calvin and Clara Belk Vanderheyden. She married Roger Hermon Smith on Dec. 26, 1940, at Geneseo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1992.
June was the first woman to be an accredited airport executive in Iowa. She served as assistant to the director at the Waterloo airport. She was past president and district governor of Quota Club of Iowa. She loved cooking, playing the piano and organ professionally and spending time with her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
