Iowans should seek out, learn from Bloom
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I read the well written “folksy” article about life in Iowa by Stephen Bloom in The Atlantic.
The important portion of the piece is that Iowa specifically and rural Midwest in general have much to learn in terms of being more enlightened and sophisticated.
It would seem that chambers of commerce in The Gazette's reading public should invite Bloom to speak to them. Church groups and other related organizations also might benefit from his observations.
Contact the journalism department at the University of Iowa. Call the main number and they will direct you to the department. As he is on sabbatical, teaching at the University of Michigan, you can call the main number there. Please be polite and be willing to schedule his talk months in advance. We all have much to learn.
