Williard "Bill" F. Hohensee, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Cottage Grove Place. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Erickson officiating at the services. Burial with military honors will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Williard was born in Belvue, Kan., on May 30, 1925, the son of John and Caroline (Hasenbank) Hohensee. Williard was raised on a farm near Pocahontas, Iowa, and attended country school and his first year of high school in Pocahontas. He then enlisted in the Army and served time in the Philippines and Japan in World War II. After returning home, he attended and graduated from Pocahontas High School and then attended and graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon. He was employed by and retired from the State of Iowa Department of Revenue in Des Moines. Williard married Marian Rodenberg at Bethany Lutheran Church on Dec. 13, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. Bill enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his family.
Williard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clairmont, Milford and Lloyd Hohensee; and sisters, Letha Littell and Marlene Monkelein.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian; sons, John (Beth) Hohensee of Cedar Rapids and Mark Hohensee of Collinsville, Okla.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Althea Betten of Jolley and Carol Hohensee of Pomeroy; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hohensee of Newton and Betty Hohensee of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
