Simmons, Lyle A.
Lyle A. Simmons, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. As per Lyle's wishes, private family services will be held in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Lyle was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Linn County, the son of Lavern and Mildred (Graver) Simmons. He served in the United States Navy, before marrying Pauline Eddy on Jan. 12, 1958. Lyle worked for 38 years at Wilson and Farmstead. He retired from Von Maur in the stock room.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Pauline; a daughter, Chris (Bryan) Knox, and the lights of his life, two grandchildrenm Lauren and Katie Knox all of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Don (Gladys) Simmons of Tipton; sisters Bonnie May of Plano, Texas, Faye Teeple of Falsom, Calif., Joan (Kirk) Loomis of Loveland, Colo., and Jean (Bob) Johnson of Bridgeport, Conn.; and his special friend and brother-in-law, Bill (Lorene) Richmond of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gaylord Simmons.
Memorials may be directed to either Hospice of Mercy and or the Humane Society.
