Bullfighting photo in poor taste
The Gazette Opinion Staff

On the top of the picture page in the July 11 Gazette, there was a photo featuring a barbarous activity known as bullfighting and performed in other countries.
In this cruel activity, a bull is partially disabled by plunging sharp devices into the muscles of his back behind his neck. This makes it agonizing for the poor animal to raise his head, thus providing the “brave” matador the upper edge.
This is similar to stabbing or shooting a boxer before sending him into the ring. But, of course, the boxer would have a choice as to whether to go through with this horrific event. The poor, beleaguered animal has no choice in the matter and is forced to suffer an agonizing death to the applause and glee of a depraved audience.
This is comparable to the ancient Roman activity in their coliseums of slaughtering Christians and animals by making them fight each other for the entertainment of a cheering, bloodthirsty audience.
The Gazette should be ashamed of promoting such a cruel, appalling activity that can only encourage and lead to further abuse of animals and even humans by the mentally deficient and depraved among us.
