A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard "Bud" Thomann, 92, of Kalona, formerly of Riverside, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Riverside, with Father David Brownfield and Father Rich Adam officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Riverside. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the church where a rosary and vigil will be held at 3 p.m. Bernard Thomann died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
A memorial fund has been established for Mount Olivet Cemetery, Riverside Fire and Rescue, Iowa City Hospice and Pleasantview Home.
Bernard "Bud" L. Thomann was born June 5, 1923, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Wilford and Anna (Simon) Thomann. On Jan. 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mildred Schnoebelen at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Bud was a third generation farmer on the land that is still being farmed by his family. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed feeding cattle, John Deere machinery, trips out west to buy cattle, playing euchre and spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.
Survivors include eight children, Larry (Tina) Thomann of Riverside, Linda (Gary) Kron of Ainsworth, Ross (Jane) Thomann of Columbus Junction, Alan (Linda) Thomann of Riverside, Janet (Perry) Nicholson of Riverside, Greg (Janice) Thomann, Dean (Sue) Thomann and Kirk (Teri) Thomann, all of Riverside; son--in-law, Mike Welsh of Riverside; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Hora and Doris (Leroy) Yeggy; and three sisters-in-law, Kay Thomann, Barb Thomann and Alberta Thomann.
Preceding Bud in death were his parents; his wife, Mildred; one daughter, Ruth Welsh; a granddaughter, Kim Friese; three brothers, Don, Lawrence and Jim; three sisters, Marie (Ernie) Kiene, Lillian (Wilbur) Kiene and Vera (Lou) Sorenson; and one brother-in-law, Edwin Hora.
