Maynard L. Manley, 89, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A funeral service will be Friday, June 19, beginning at 2 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will begin an hour before the service.
Maynard was born Oct. 16, 1925, to George and Gertrude Manley in Fairfield, Iowa. On Oct. 23, 1946, he married Verla Roth at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Maynard served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. After serving his country, he worked construction and moved to Cedar Rapids, working for the Cedar Rapids school board. He retired in 1990 after 30 years.
Maynard is survived by his daughters, Boni (Bruce) Nemecek and Peggy Schultz of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald Manley of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Verla; daughter, Judy Taylor; parents, George and Gertrude Manley; brothers, Forrest, George and Wayne Manley; and sisters, Dora Tisor, Helen Richards and Betty Milligan.
