Schneider, Francis P. 'Frank'
Francis P. “Frank” Schneider, 86, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Private family burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Frank was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Richmond, Iowa, the son of Jack and Earla (Mehaffey) Schneider. He received his B.A. from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and his M.A. from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Frank was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, retiring with the rank of lt. colonel. He was a teacher and elementary principal with the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 35 years.
Frank loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; son, Franklin (Barb) Schneider of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Paula (Ted) Fries of Ely, Linda (Steve) Erger of Reno, Nev., and Gretchen (Jeff) Kopecky of Urbana; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lois; brothers, Jack (Ethel) Schneider and Charles (Evelyn) Schneider; sisters, Catherine Schneider, Helen (Carl) Ward and Margaret (Max) Evans-Foreman; and infant children, Marlene and John Joseph.
