Eugene R. Ilten, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died at Mercy Medical Center on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Memorial Services: noon Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. James Ilten. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Surviving are his favorite sister, Gertrude Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, James (Nadine) Ilten of Lombard, Ill., Robert (Pat) Ilten of Leawood, Kan., and Phillip (Sheila) Ilten of Newberry Park, Calif. Gene and Jane had four children, Steven (Danielle) Ilten of Merlin, Ore., Barbara (Marlan) Morse of Center Point, Ore., Jay (Barbra) Ilten of Holy Cross and Jeff (Terri) Ilten of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Erik, Ryan, Chad, Sara, Hannah, Peter, Chelsey and Molly; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; and a brother, Theodore.
Eugene was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, to Robert and Hulda Ilten. He married Jane Wheeler on Dec. 10, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2009. He served in the Army Air Force over Germany in World War II. After his Army service, he had his own heating service company before working for Cedar Rapids Sheet Metal Co. Gene was very proud of all of his children and we were all proud of him and loved him dearly. Given enough duct tape and a pocket knife, Gene could fix anything. Gene was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Linn County Veterans Administration.
Meth-Wick CoThe family would like to thank all the residents and staff from The Meth-Wick Community for their love and support as well as Mercy Medical Center physicians and staff for the tender care given to Gene.
