Donald Louis Deeds, 77, of Atkins, died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Certified Celebrant Amy Hart. Entombment with military honors will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from
4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom.
Don was born Jan. 5, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Carl L. Deeds and Evelyn (Nagle) Deeds-Goedken. After graduating from East High School in Waterloo in 1957, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Shoop on April 2, 1960, in Waterloo. To this union, two children were born. He later married Margaret "Peg" (Rehling) Edwards on Aug. 1, 2015, in Atkins.
He was employed in various positions at U.S. West from 1960 until his retirement in 1986. From 1986 until 1996, he owned and operated Paycom Systems and Digital Directions Co. Don was a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with friends, especially cribbage and euchre. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Peg; children, Walter (Holly) Deeds of Atkins and Shelley Deeds-Drost of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Alex and Jake Deeds, Derek Robertson and Dakota Drost; stepsons, Brandon (Artoria) Edwards and Braxton (Jackie) Edwards, both of Cedar Rapids; and stepgrandchildren, Braylon and Blakely Edwards. Also surviving are his siblings, Richard (Sandy) Deeds of Manns Choice, Pa., and David (Carole) Deeds of Cedar Falls; as well as sister-in-law, Marilyn Deeds; and brother-in-law, Tom Kies, both of Waterloo.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; wife, Dorothy, in 2004; and siblings, Carl F. Deeds and Betty Kies.
