Edwards, Johnnie A. Sr.
Johnnie A. Edwards Sr., 63, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 in Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Wake services will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Greater Christ Temple Church, Columbus, Ohio.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Survivors include his faithful wife of 42 years, Faye (Robinson) Edwards; stepfather, Otis V. Edwards of Omaha, Neb.; children, Johnnie A. Edwards Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind., Jason R. Edwards (Jennifer) of Cedar Rapids, and De'Shonda Edwards of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; brothers, Otis Edwards of Mario, Ohio, and Quincy Edwards of Omaha, Neb.; sisters, Thelma Shabazz of Toledo, Ohio, and Betty Edwards of Fremont, Ohio; and grandchildren, Ciara of Reynoldsburg, Josiah and Jannai of Indianapolis, and Jaciana of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Edwards and sister, Dorothy Rainey.
Pastor Edwards was the pastor of Faith Tabernacle Church in Cedar Rapids for 13 years, 1981 to 1994. During this time he was elevated to the position of District Elder within the Iowa-Nebraska-Wyoming Council. From 1999 to 2004, he was the pastor of Shiloh Faith Assemblies in Weirton, W.Va. Johnnie and Faye returned to the Columbus area in 2008, to be closer to their family and friends. For the past two years he attended Life Center Adult Care, enjoying bingo and socializing.
