CEDAR RAPIDS - Nebraska U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse will pay off his bet on the Iowa-Nebraska football game behind the wheel of an Uber in Des Moines tonight.
Sasse is scheduled to speak at a Story County GOP dinner in Nevada tonight. Afterward, he'll don Hawkeye colors and be available to people who use the Uber ride-sharing service.
Last fall, Sasse bet UI graduate Benny Johnson, who worked for a conservative news website, that the Nebraska Cornhuskers would defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes when they met at Kinnick Stadium. The bet was that the loser would drive Uber on the winning team's campus - while wearing gear representing that team.
The Cornhuskers lost that Nov. 25, 2016, game badly, 40-10.
A spokesman for the Nebraska Republican said Sasse will make good on the bet, including wearing Hawkeye gear. He plans to donate the clothing to charity 'so a real Hawkeye fan can enjoy it,” the spokesman said.
As was previously planned, Sasse's schedule wouldn't permit driving in Iowa City, where the UI campus is located, according to his staff.
