Derwin, Virginia M.
Virginia M. Derwin of North Liberty died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 9, 2011. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 300 12th Ave., Coralville, with the Rev. Walter Helms officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.
Virginia was born and raised in Washington, Iowa. On July 7, 1962, Virginia married James Derwin in Omaha, Neb. They lived in Dubuque from 1970-2005, moving to North Liberty in 2005.
Most important to Virginia was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to cruise to distant ports.
The family extends their appreciation to Iowa City Hospice, especially Deb and Nicole, and to her sister-in-law, Arlene, for the excellent care they gave to Virginia.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; their two children and two grandchildren, Arlene (Steve) Klesner of Iowa City and their daughter, Elizabeth, and Jim (Michelle) Derwin of Des Moines and their son, Tyler; four siblings, Marjorie (Jim) Soethout of Omaha, Marilyn (Harry) Marcley of West Des Moines, Charles (Jeannette) Brinning of Richland and Donnie (Mercy) Brinning of Brighton; nieces and nephews; her aunt, Ruth Hartman of Iowa City; and special friends, David and Dianne Fausch and Randy and Diane Pfeiler.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Florence (Johnson) Brinning; her grandson, Jimmy Klesner; and her sister, Rita.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous, 12007 190th St., Monticello, IA 52310-8060.
