Fongheiser, Carl
Carl Fongheiser, born Feb. 10, 1965, lost his long battle with colorectal cancer on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Carl was a vital member of the Iowa City community. His involvement included acting as secretary for the Johnson County Democratic Party, as a member of Quire, and he was an integral part of Faith United Church of Christ. He was well-known for his volunteer efforts and his willingness to help anyone in need. Carl spent most of his adult life in Iowa, working as a software engineer - most recently at Intermec.
He is survived by his mother, Florence; and siblings, Laura Vincent, David Fongheiser, Karen Shultz, Marilyn Catanese and Susan Wiesemann.
A celebration of Carl's life will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church of Christ, 1609 DeForest St., Iowa City. Pastor Bob Loffer will officiate. Burial will be private at a later date in Ohio.
Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to The Carl. M. Fongheiser Memorial Fund.
Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Fongheiser.
