Vernon J. Brogla, 92, of Oxford, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, in Bettendorf, after residing at Kahl Home in Davenport. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove by the Rev. Edmund Dunn. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, a rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Wisitation will also be after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be offered for Masses.
Vernon was born April 23, 1922, in the upstairs bedroom of the home in which he grew up in rural Oxford. He was the son of Charlie and Irene (O'Brien) Brogla. Vernon married Billie (Wilhelmina Clear) on his birthday in 1946 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. Vernon and Billie put their heart and soul into their Century Farm, known as Roseview Farm, where they raised Black Angus cattle.
Vernon's Catholic faith, family, and farm were most important in his life.
Vernon and Billie celebrated 65 years of marriage before Billie's death on April 30, 2011.
Survivors include children, Cheryl Brogla-Krupke of Davenport, Gerry Brogla (Marty) of Normal, Ill., and Geralyn McQuary (John) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his sister, Susie Hendrickson of Brookings, S.D.; grandchildren, Mimi Clark (Adam), Gerard Krupke (Carrie), Lucy Brogla, Cindy Fisher (Dan), Garrett Brogla (Keersten), Shannon McQuary (Amy), Bailey McQuary and Morgan Williamson (Matt); and great-grandchildren, Caden and Kai Clark, Adelaide Krupke and two great-grandchildren expected soon.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; their son, David; and a granddaughter, Whitney Krupke.
