He served with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star.
He enjoyed playing bridge, earning his life master in one year and outdoor activities, which included skiing, backpacking and exploring the Anasazi culture of the desert southwest. He was an enthusiastic traveler, having visited much of the world.
On St. Valentine's Day in 1993, he married Patti Cleary in Sun Valley, Idaho. Patti passed away in 2000.
While playing bridge, Robert met Donna Cosgrove who became his life partner. Together, they pursued a vigorous schedule of bridge tournaments and recreational travel. Donna and Bob enjoyed gardening, travel and a house full of cats.
