Kent, Maureen M.
Maureen M. Kent, 76, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Mercy Hospice of complications related to COPD. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and the Women of Moose will conduct a service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, American Heart Association or Iowa City Hospice.
Maureen was born March 11, 1935, in Iowa City, the daughter of Louis and Margaret Sterner Quinlan. She was a 1953 graduate of Cosgrove High School and attended Iowa City Commercial College. On Nov. 22, 1956, she married Lawrence Kent at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove.
Maureen was employed for 42 years at the University of Iowa and retired from the department of cardiology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Following retirement she worked part time at Hy-Vee.
Maureen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Women of the Moose. She liked to cook, knit and spend time with her family and grandchildren.
Maureen is surviving by her loving husband, Lawrence and their son, Jeffrey (Robin) Kent of Wellman; and her three grandchildren, Brandon (Theresa) Kent of Monticello, Misty (Eric) Beirwagon of Ames, and Matthew Kent and fiancee Tauni Kirby of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandson, Quinlan Justin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Justin.
