Loan, Joseph Patrick 'Pat'
Joseph Patrick “Pat” Loan, 77, of Tiffin, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove. The Rev. Edmond Dunn will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A Knights of Columbus rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a parish vigil service at 8 p.m. Burial will be private at St. Peter's Cemetery in Cosgrove.
Pat was born March 21, 1934, in Iowa City, the son of Hazen and Irene (Dembinski) Loan. Graduating from Lone Tree High School, Pat later attended Iowa City Business College. He married Betty Himelhoch on Aug. 27, 1966, in Lone Tree. Pat worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Dietary Store Room for 40 years, retiring in 2003.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Pat enjoyed studying genealogy and compiling the family history. He was a strong supporter of the Cosgrove Institute, for which he served for many years on the board of directors. Pat was a dedicated preservationist of the Cline Cemetery in rural Hills.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughters, Eileen Schmidt (Dwayne) of Urbana and Mary Loan of Winnemucca, Nev.; and a son, William Loan of North Liberty.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Francis; and a sister, Betty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Peter's Church or The Joseph Patrick Loan Memorial Fund.
