DeLong, Joanne
Joanne DeLong, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012. A memorial service celebrating Joanne's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with Cedar Memorial's certified celebrant, Julie Freese, officiating. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Julie (Ben Mihalski) DeLong of Mableton, Ga., Rich (Chris) DeLong of Anamosa and Doug (Mary) DeLong of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Max Shields of Oskaloosa, Roger (Jo) Shields of Monument, Colo., and Carl (Louise) Shields of Tucson, Ariz. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Sara, Katy, and Luke; and great-grandchild, Hayden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lila Shields; husband, Jerry D. DeLong in 2001; and siblings, Claire Redman and Claude Shields.
Edith Joanne Shields was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Ottumwa, Iowa. On Aug. 8, 1954, she married Jerry D. DeLong in Oskaloosa. Joanne and Jerry owned and operated several businesses, most recently CR Washer Leasing.
She loved to read and was a lifetime member of the Otter Creek Sportsmen's Club, where she held various offices and was also involved in the Iowa State Trapshooting Association for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Joanne will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
