Long, Don Hurley
Don Hurley Long, 87, of Coral Gables, Fla., formerly of North English, died Jan. 14, 2012. Graveside services, with military honors, were Monday, Jan. 16, at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Cemetery in Florida. A celebration of life was Jan. 16 at Granada Presbyterian Church, Coral Gables, followed by a reception.
Survivors include his wife, Nena Long; son, Randy (Claire) Long, Naples, Fla.; daughter, Karen (Kim) Autrey, Orlando, Fla.; sister, Elaine (John) Goetz, Cedar Rapids; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vi Long; and his parents, Hurley and Amber Long.
Don enlisted in the Army Air Force in World War II, retiring from the Air Force Reserves in 1984 as a lieutenant colonel. He had a 33-year career as a pilot for Delta Air Lines, retiring as a captain, and enjoyed his service to his church as a deacon and elder.
