Robert Louis Long, 82, of Wallingford, Conn., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Born March 20, 1932, in Solon, Iowa, he was the son of the late William Long and Anna Rohret Long.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen McElligott Long; his brother, Richard (Marsha) Long of Solon; his five children, Denice (Dermot) Jones, Lisa Long, Diane Long, Brian (Jennifer) Long and Stephen (Anne) Long; and five grandchildren.
He is pre-deceased by his older brother, Bill (Dorothy) Long; and his sister, Rita (Bill) Potter.
Bob attended St. Mary's High School in Iowa City, and then served in the U.S. Navy. He received his B.S.E. in mechanical engineering at the University of Iowa and his M.B.A. at the University of New Haven (Connecticut). He was employed by Miles Pharmaceuticals (Elkhart, Ind.), which became a subsidiary of Bayer AG (West Haven, Conn.) for over four decades.
