Hite, Don Eugene
Don Eugene Hite, 93, of Shellsburg, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, May 15, at Oakland Church of the Nazarene, 300 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. David King officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before service time on Tuesday.
Don was born May 28, 1918, in Belle Plaine, to Ement and Elizabeth (McGuire) Hite. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Blount on July 21, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy preceded him in death on March 6, 1998. Don was united in marriage to Ruth Cherryholmes on Aug. 17, 2002, in rural Shellsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Shellsburg; two daughters, Cheryl Beatty of Shellsburg and Lana (Dan) Beck of Chelsea; seven grandchildren, Chad (Cathie) Beatty, Todd (Pam) Beatty, Brooke (Don) Mullinex, Matt (Heidi) Miller, Christine Miller, Holly (Matt) Martin and Darrin Miller; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Don was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Keith Beatty; six brothers and three sisters.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
