Lucas John Mather, 22, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, due to injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident.
A celebration of Lucas' life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at First Christian Church in Vinton with the Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Visitation will be held from
4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
Lucas was born May 22, 1992, in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, the son of Todd M. Mather and Michelle L. Phelps. He attended Washington High School in Vinton. He was a roofer and construction worker. He loved his dog, Molly, and hanging out with his friends.
Lucas is survived by his parents, Michelle Phelps of Shellsburg and Todd Mather of Shellsburg; maternal grandmother Carole Phelps of Vinton; paternal grandmother Sherry Mather of rural Palo; two brothers, Donald and Ryan Mather of Shellsburg; niece Vivian Mather of Garrison; girlfriend Kaila Cooper of Cedar Falls; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mahlon Phelps; his paternal grandfather, Donald Mather; and his aunt, Jo Phelps.
Memorials may be directed to the Lucas Mather Memorial Fund c/o Wells Fargo Bank in Shellsburg.
