Pence, Joyce
Joyce Pence, 70, of Shellsburg, died at home Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. Celebration of Life services: 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Wildcat Golf Course Clubhouse. Inurnment: Rector Chelsea Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Cedar Rapids.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Dan; children, Steve (Marni) Heisler of Cedar Rapids, Marina Carter of Woodbridge, Va., and Jeff (Jenn) Heisler of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joyce was born May 30, 1941, in Cedar Falls, to Marvin and Helen Cherveny. She married Dan Pence in Newton, Ill., on April 30, 1987. She was vice president at United Security Bank until her retirement in 2006. Joyce founded the Shellsburg Farmers Market in 2007. She was treasurer for the Shellsburg Area Community Group. Joyce was just elected mayor of Shellsburg in November 2011. She was involved with the Shellsburg Golf Cart Gala and an officer of the board of directors of the Shellsburg Wildcat Golf Course. She was also a Master Gardener.
