A 37-year-old Cedar Rapids woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to stabbing her boyfriend numerous times in September and filing false unemployment claims.
Contina Foster pleaded guilty in Linn County District Court to first-degree fraudulent practices, willful injury causing bodily injury, going armed with intent and a serious misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury (domestic abuse).
An attempted murder charge originally filed was dismissed as part of the plea deal.
The charges plead to carry up to 21 years but as part of a plea agreement she will be sentenced to 10 years if the sentencing judge agrees. Sentencing will be set later today.
Foster also was ordered to pay restitution for filing false unemployment benefits between October 2008 to June 2009. She admitted she was employed during the time she claimed unemployment.
Foster also admitted during the hearing that she cut her boyfriend Julius Trammell, 37, of Cedar Rapids, with a paring knife during an argument. Foster said she was on her way to Wal-Mart to change her locks on her residence when she saw Trammell walking along the street and she jumped out of the car to get her keys back from him.
Foster said they argued, Trammell punched her in the face and then she took out a paring knife from her pocket and cut him. The knife had about a 3-inch blade.
Trammell was stabbed numerous times in his back and arms and also had a small cut on his throat, Assistant Linn County Attorney Nic Scott said.
