Letter: Restrict where bicyclists can ride

In response to the Sept. 2 article 'Iowa bicycle fatalities trend down,” I would like to express my opinion.

I drive to work in Palo on Covington Road during rush hour. With the new Highway 100 bypass opened, I have seen and almost been involved in even more accidents than before because a bicyclist is on the road during that time.

Why is it the driver's fault when a bicyclist is involved in an accident on this or any extremely busy road? The bicyclist should not be on that road in the first place. They cause accidents by riding on roads that are not wide enough for them and traffic and the drivers of vehicles are the ones at fault when an accident happens? Not right and not fair.

There are many bike paths, trails and designated lanes around the city for bicyclists to use. They are one of the reasons auto insurance is increasing. Maybe instead of toughening vehicle laws, they should restrict where and when bicyclists are allowed to ride.
