Hill, Lois Irene Benson
Lois Irene Benson Hill, 87, died November 12, 2010, at The Woodlands in The Meth-Wick Community. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors. The Rev. John Albertson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving to honor her memory are her husband, Elroy; her children, Steven (Christine) Hill of Lakeville, Minn., Debora (Craig) Aldrich of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Robin) Engelbart of Marion; a brother, Robert Benson of Wellington, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Ryan Dagon, Kelley Blair, Brian Hill, Peter Skow, Alicia Ruhkala, Jeffrey Kiley, Michelle Vaughan and Joshua Engelbart; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Benson; a sister, Mildred Boe; and a great-grandchild, Oliver Hill.
Lois Irene Hill was born March 24, 1923, in rural Delaware County, the daughter of John and Agnes (Gienapp) Benson. After attending Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Lois attended Coe College, followed by nursing school in Chicago. She entered the Army Nursing Corps in 1945 and served in Okinawa at an Army Field Combat Hospital. She was united in marriage to Elroy Hill on July 20, 1947, in Cedar Rapids.
Lois devoted her life to her husband, her children and their families. She will be remembered for her faith, her nurturing and especially her brownies.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Marion or the Linn County Genealogical Society.
