Weathered flags should be repaired or replaced

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America. Take a moment to assess the condition of your flag. The harsh winter weather has taken a toll. Daily I see flags being flown by businesses and residences throughout the Cedar Rapids metro area that are in bad shape. I have stopped at several businesses and asked that the flag be replaced or immediately taken down and repaired.
When making my request, I am informed that the business is aware of the flag's condition and has been waiting for better weather to replace the flag. Flying a flag for any length of time when it is tattered or torn is dishonorable and a sign of disrespect to our country. If you are proud enough to fly America's flag, ensure it is in serviceable condition. Please give unserviceable flags to any local American Legion post for proper disposal at no cost.
