Palmer, Kenneth L.
Kenneth L. Palmer, 91, of Oelwein, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Oelwein Health Care Center. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home and one hour before the service Friday at the church. Public Masonic Service: 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, with graveside military rites.

Kenneth LeRoy Palmer was born on Oct. 1, 1920, at Gretna, Neb., one of six children of Jacob and Katherine (Munster) Palmer. Kenny married Anna “Dollie” Margaret Lower on Feb. 14, 1942, at Burlington, Iowa. He joined the Army Air Corps in January 1943, serving with the occupation forces in Japan. After his discharge, he farmed near Aurora and Maynard, Iowa, and retired as a sales manager of Long Manufacturing of Rock Island, Ill., in 1980. Kenny was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 and Hebron Masonic Lodge # 374 A.F. & A.M. and the El Kahir Shrine.
Kenny is survived by a son, Dr. Kenneth F. (Carolynne) Palmer of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; daughter, Marsha (Matthew) Philippe of Crestline, Calif.; granddaughter, Jonna Palmer (Richard Saskal) of Alameda, Calif.; great-grandson, Cameron Kenneth Saskal of Alameda, Calif.; and a brother, George (Verla) Palmer of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna M. Palmer on Aug. 29, 2000; two brothers; and two sisters.
