The imminent destruction of the Hach Building in your New Bohemia district prompted us to write.
My mother and I came to Cedar Rapids two weeks ago as a part of a broader Eastern Iowa trip, bringing us to your wonderful city.
We are saddened to have to express our concern for this building and its future.
We took a picture in front of it because it summed up our love of Cedar Rapid's built character and broader beauty.
We urge the residents and the leadership of Cedar Rapids to stand up for this building — host a rally and contact the owners, Diane and Leon 'Tunnie' Melsha, before it's too late.
With each loss of a historic building, we fear Cedar Rapids may become just like any other place.
It's up to you. Take a stand for your built heritage — once it's gone, it's gone, and quite frankly, so is a major part of your tourism.
