Leonard Oldrich Rigel, 77, of Western, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Brosh Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Leonard was born April 11, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Oldrich and Mary (Kopecek) Rigel. Leonard was united in marriage to Johann Fowler on Dec. 26, 1969, in Iowa City. Leonard worked at Waconia Sorghum Mill for many years, as well as farming his entire life. He enjoyed going to sales and auctions, playing cards, gardening and spending time with his family.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Johann; three children, Rick (Jennifer) Rigel of Cedar Rapids, Ronda Rigel Cook of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Alyssa) Rigel of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren, Dale and Doug Cook, Alexander and Mason Rigel, and Zach Rigel; his brother, Ernest (Carol) Rigel of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Max) Hansen of Marion; and brother-in-law, Steve (Mary) Fowler of Iowa City.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Libbie O'Brine.
