Class 3A, 4A state baseball pairings

DES MOINES – Wednesday night was the big-schools' turn to determine state baseball qualifiers. Area teams Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Iowa City West and Vinton-Shellsburg all punched their tickets to Des Moines.

The tournament begins Friday at Principal Park, though 3A teams won't hit the field until Tuesday and 4A teams Wednesday.

Vinton-Shellsburg is the eighth seed in Class 3A and will take on top-seeded Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday morning. Kennedy and West are on the same side of the 4A bracket as the No. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively, and will each play Wednesday night.

The Class 1A and 2A fields were released Tuesday night.
