ACA offers security to Gen Z

I graduated from Simpson College at the end of April and started my first job a couple of months ago. I didn't realize how valuable the Affordable Care Act was until I started my job search.

I'm currently on my parents' health insurance plan. I have until I'm 26 to enjoy this health security while I pursue my dreams. For me and many of my friends, this means snagging that first job opportunity, without having to worry about health insurance benefits.

Being young has its health advantages, but Generation Z knows we're not invincible. We can be injured or diagnosed with a serious illness. Thanks to positive changes in the health care market, we're more likely to emerge financially and physically well.

Making health care accessible to young people only makes sense. Since most preventive care is free, good habits established in our 20s can result in better health for life. There's excellent return on investment in the higher productivity and lower long-term health costs we can expect.

With college debt looming, I'm grateful I'm getting a leg up with my health plan, and my parents sleep better knowing I'm covered, too. It's a valuable resource for the entire family.
