Betty Redmond, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 9 a.m.. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Father Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Dirks, Diane Adams and Jennifer (David) Klaren, all of Monticello, and Linda (Bob) Kirkwood, Hopkinton; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Laura) Eiben, Monticello; her sister, Marion (Jim) Blunt, Scotch Grove; and several brothers- and sisters–in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, in 2002; and five brothers, John, Paul, Harold, Art and Irvin Eiben.
Betty Marie Eiben was born June 25, 1930, in Bowens Prairie, Richland Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Ella Warner Eiben. Betty attended school in Hopkinton and North Boulder near Prairieburg. She worked at Reliance Shirt Factory in Anamosa. She also detasseled corn and worked at Longs Caning Factory. Betty Eiben and George Redmond were married on July 2, 1951, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Temple Hill. The couple lived in Monticello, and Betty worked at Monty Produce. She also did baby-sitting for a number of years.
Betty loved to garden and can the produce she grew. She always loved to be around little children.
