Iowa City VA offers exceptional care

My husband is a Vietnam veteran who receives excellent care from Iowa City Veterans Affairs. Those who defended their country in time of war or conflict and are entitled to Veterans Affairs medical coverage must be proactive instead of waiting for answers. Complainers beware because you need an advocate to begin the process. There is paperwork to prove service and discharge along with verifying who you are.
Each Iowa county has a Veterans Affairs office to help. They will get a copy of service documents and help you understand filling out paperwork. Make an appointment. Once your identification has been verified and paperwork complete, set up the website portal for Internet personal communication and secure messaging. This will speed up appointment scheduling and/or quick advice from primary case manager or social worker regarding your need. Communication has continued to be excellent for us with immediate feedback. If all else fails, begin at the county level Veterans Affairs office. It took a short time for us to receive medical care.
After applying effort, being proactive and assigned social workers, it has been a wonderful experience at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Hospital and satellite clinics. The social workers have been our greatest advocates and communication is key. Iowa must be doing something right for veterans.
