Join the Science Center for some dino fun in April. Dinosaurs Growing Up will be held at 2pm on Sunday, April 21 which will have a primary focus on duck-billed dinosaurs and large-bodied tyrannosaurs. Attendees will be able to see and touch genuine fossil bones, teeth, and claws of juvenile and adult duckbills and tyrannosaurs. Attendees will also be able to examine fossil bones of a special duckbill, “Laura the Kid Dinosaur,” and see how she fits on the Hypacrosaurus growth curve. The second program, The Rise of the Mammals, will be held at 2pm on Sunday, April 28. This program will provide insight on the extinction of dinosaurs and the rise of mammals. It will start with studying fossils including many skulls of mammals including saber tooth nimravids, vicious hyaenodons, giant pig-like entelodonts, plant-eating oreodonts, hornless rhinos, three-toed horses, and other small mammals. These fossils are found in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
Attendees will be able to see and touch replica and mineralized bones, skulls, and jaws from Ice Age mammals living from 2.6 million years ago 10 11,700 years ago around the world. In conclusion attendees will be using microscopes to examine tiny fossils of mammals from the Age of the Dinosaurs. Don will share his experiences hunting for and excavating fossil mammals from Iowa and beyond.

The Science Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday noon to 5pm. Admission during public hours is $3.00. Located at Lindale Mall, the museum has ample parking and is conveniently located between First Avenue and Collins Road.
