Jun. 20, 2017 2:26 pm, Updated: Jun. 21, 2017 2:17 pm
Former President George W. Bush is scheduled to appear at an Oct. 14 fundraiser for Trailhead International Builders at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.
Bush has been involved in many humanitarian efforts since leaving office in January 2009. He and his wife, Laura, traveled to Gaborone, Botswana, and to Namibia in April to demonstrate their commitment to the people of Africa through the work of the George W. Bush Institute's global leadership programs.
Trailhead International Builders is a 501(c)(3) Christian organization that raises funds to build churches and community facilities including youth sports programs, feeding centers and trade-skills centers in developing nations. All contributions go directly to mission projects, it says.
Recent funding projects include new church facilities in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Philippines and Cambodia, and sports center programs in Nicaragua, Ukraine, the Philippines and Costa Rica.
Tickets for the fundraisers will be available beginning June 30 at trailheadinternational.org.
