Stephen Lee Stanford, 69,
of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday, July 25, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Steve was born May 16, 1948, in Cedar Rapids to his beloved parents, Donald and Phoebe (Hyde) Stanford. He married Dana Nelson on April 19, 1975. Together they have two daughters, Melissa Stanford of Marion and Melanie (Brian) Jacobowitz of Cedar Rapids, along with three grandchildren, Eve, Theo and Louis Jacobowitz.
He also is survived by his brother and best friend, Tom (Mary) Stanford of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his aunt, Frankie, and uncle, Blue Cochran.
Steve graduated from Marion High School in 1966. He went to the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in English secondary education. Steve worked as an engineering tech for Linn County Engineering for 38 years before his retirement.
He was an Eagle Scout who loved the great outdoors, especially fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. Steve was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye sports.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospice or Indian Creek Nature Center, both in Cedar Rapids.
