Don’t just accept casino rhetoric
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 22, 2013 12:19 pm
Much of the talk around town lately has been about the proposed new casino in Cedar Rapids.
Our city government already has displayed its disdain for transparency and fiscal responsibility by spending taxpayer money like drunken sailors on pet projects all around town, including the various deals that have been made in regard to Physicians' Clinic of Iowa and its “medical mall,” as well as others.
Now they (supporters) want to rush a vote on a casino and they are using scare tactics and pie in the sky economic promises to manipulate the voter into going along with their agenda. It should make you ask why the rush, indeed. If you can't trust them to spend your money on flood protection, how can you trust what they are telling you about this casino project?
Think this one through and don't just buy the rhetoric.
