Harry Rublack, 80, died peacefully at home Saturday, July 23, 2016, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Garrison with the Rev. Mark Leckband officiating. Interment will be in Garrison Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the church on Tuesday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Harry was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Breslau, Germany, to Herbert Kurt and Hildegard Berta Pauline Walda Rublack. He arrived in the United States as a teen refugee from Germany. Harry was proud to become an American citizen. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, Harry was taught in the field of electronics.
On May 16, 1958, Harry was united in marriage to Hazel Belle Zahn at the Four Square Church in Shellsburg. He eventually was self-employed selling and repairing TVs, stereos, car stereos and other electronic devices. Through the years Harry competed and won many awards racing 10-speed bicycles.
As an avid artist and craftsman, Harry created and sold various wooden projects and amazing paintings. He loved listening to music, traveling and spending time with his wife and beloved pets.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hazel; his daughter, Joyce Rublack; his son, David (Sandra) Rublack; his sisters, Monika (Dean) White and Rosie Petersen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an uncle and an aunt, Freddie (Helga) Walda; and his brother-in-law, George Petersen.
