To the editor:
A year ago, my wife and I joined a number of other Cedar Rapids School District parents to ask voters in the district to approve extension of the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). PPEL funds necessary repair projects at the district's fleet of schools. We remain grateful toward all voters who took the time to cast their vote. Your involvement with our schools - whether as a parent, grandparent or just as someone who supports the schools with your taxes is important.
At our school, the hallway flooring has been replaced and all-weather carpet was added at entryways. As we took our first steps into the building for open house, both of our kids looked at each other and gasped. Never did I dream that new flooring would excite them so much. Our kids take ownership and pride in their schools. This is their work environment, this is their turf and the improvements you help the district make through PPEL makes a difference in their learning experience.
Our school's flooring project pales in comparison to some of the extensive work completed around the district. (The district's Facebook and Twitter feeds detail all the projects.) I can only imagine the 'wow factor” kids had when they walked into schools where the largest projects were undertaken this summer. You made a difference by funding PPEL and the district's efforts to make safe, inviting environments for more than 16,000 kids at the 16 District's 31 school buildings around Cedar Rapids. Thank you!
