Loeffelholz, Eugene 'Gene' L.
Eugene “Gene” L. Loeffelholz, 67, of New Vienna, died peacefully at home Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, surrounded by his family and friends. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Al Vorwald.
Gene was born July 15, 1946, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Oberbroeckling) Loeffelholz. Gene married Diane Schaub on June 17, 1967, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. He worked at Ertl's for 35 years until it closed and then worked at Scale Models until his illness. He was very loving to his wife, kids and grandkids. Gene was a member of the Tri-County Sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors. He served as a council member, mayor and fireman in New Vienna. He was proud of his community.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane; three children, Jeff “Bucky” (Amy) Loeffelholz, Diana Loeffelholz and Cheri (John) McAuliffe; five grandchildren, Ben and TJ Henderson, Elizabeth McAuliffe and Piper and Sadie Loeffelholz; siblings, Kay (Fred) Schaffer and David (Joyce) Loeffelholz; mother-in-law, Sylvia Schaub; in-laws, Fred (Brenda) Schaub; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Elmer Schaub; niece, Stephanie Schaub; and a great-nephew, Aiden Schaffer.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, the medical staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and all the family and friends for all their love and support.
